Student testimonial

Maarten de Ridder, MSc student Life Science & Technology

At Leiden Life Science and Technology students are often seen as smart science students, but at Delft they tend to be regarded more as humanities students. Whatever the perception, there are clear differences between Leiden and Delft, which are also reflected in the study programme.

Leiden places a stronger emphasis on fundamental, molecular work, revolving around molecular genetics and gene technology. At Delft – well, what else do you expect? – the programme is approached from a technological perspective with the main focus on biotechnology and industrial processes.

As the programme brings you into contact with many different fields, you are broadly trained – which makes you broadly deployable. In the Master’s phase you get to specialise in the areas where you feel most at home. Or, if you prefer, you can keep the perspective as broad as it was when you started. It’s your choice!
